My Wing Chun journey began in 2005 at the advice of my brother-in-law. He suggested Wing Chun or Aikido. I didn't know what Wing Chun was and he had explained it was Bruce Lee's first art as well as the foundation for Jeet Kune Do. I later learned that Jeet Kune Do is Bruce Lee's interpretation of Wing Chun.
Having a background in wrestling and boxing I understood immediately the benefits of this system. This was before the initial experience I had with this art where Sifu Jon performed a Pak-Dar on another student. My mind was blown so I asked if I could feel that. I didn't even hesitate. I jumped up and rested my arm in position. The energy radiating from his arm was indescribable. If I could put it into words it would be a magnetic force that was simultaneously both attracting and repelling holding my arm in place. I knew from that moment, this was what I wanted to learn.
I've always been fascinated by martial arts since I was a kid. I took Tae Kwan Do and wrestled in high school. I did some boxing more for exercise. I began practicing Wing Chun in 2005. A lot of us in the school for a time trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and I obtained my Blue Belt in 2009 while competing in tournaments. I had the honor and privilege of training under two Sifu's and Kung Fu masters, Jon Linder and John Mellilo. Under their direction, I not only honed my Wing Chun skills but also learned real world application in addition to training MMA.
This school was passed on to me by my Sifu, Jon Linder and I do my very best every day to live up to his legend, his name and overall ways of teaching.
